Oklahoma Democratic Party: Walters’ Resignation Proves Democrats Were Right All Along

The Oklahoma Democratic Party responded Wednesday night to the resignation of State Superintendent Ryan Walters, who announced on FOX News that he is stepping down to serve as CEO of the Teacher Freedom Alliance.

From the beginning, Democrats have been the loudest and clearest voices warning about Walters’ reckless agenda. While Republicans looked away, Democrats fought for Oklahoma’s students, parents, and teachers.

Oklahoma Democratic Party Chair John Waldron said:

“Superintendent Walters brought chaos and polarization to the state’s largest appropriated agency. Oklahoma Democrats were the first to call for action to rein in his reckless administration of our public schools. The GOP did nothing as we fell to 50th in education. We are glad to see his resignation. Good riddance.”

The Oklahoma Democratic Party has consistently highlighted Walters’ failures, from his mishandling of federal relief funds to his culture war antics at State Board meetings. Democrats have also been the only party offering real solutions for improving student performance, strengthening public schools, and restoring trust in state government.

“With Walters gone, Oklahoma has an opportunity to start fresh,” Chair Waldron continued. “We urge Gov. Stitt to appoint a Superintendent who will serve students and families, not special interests or political ambitions. The Oklahoma Democratic Party will keep fighting to ensure every child in our state has access to a quality public education.”
