The Oklahoma Democratic Party is actively seeking a candidate for the position of Corporation Commissioner to aid the people in Oklahoma in conducting transparent and effective regulation of our natural resources, energy production, and the corporate entities involved.
What’s the Oklahoma Corporation Commission?
The Oklahoma Corporation Commission is (meant to be) empowering Oklahoma by:
Ensuring responsible development of oil and gas resources: reliable utility service at fair rates: safe and legal operation of motor carriers, pipelines, rail crossings, and fueling stations: and prevention and remediation of energy‐related pollution of the environment, while
Balancing the rights and needs of the people with those of regulated entities through the development and enforcement of regulations in an open, transparent, ethical, and just manner. [Oklahoma Corporation Commission]
The Commission’s Vision:
“To be a trusted, effective agency that works collaboratively to accomplish its Mission in a way that protects people and the environment, conserves natural resources, improves quality of life, promotes continued economic development, and holds both itself and the industries it regulates accountable to the citizens of Oklahoma.” - oklahoma.gov/occ
Job Description:
Since its establishment in 1907, the Oklahoma Corporation Commission has been tasked with the responsibility of regulating public service corporations, whose services are essential to the public welfare. This position has become competitive because the current commissioner, Todd Hiett, has lost touch with Oklahoma residents and instead works for the corporations he was tasked with regulating.
The Corporation Commissioner will:
Be a fearless advocate for Oklahoma residents in regulating corporations
Lead with transparency and integrity
Be committed to working for the people of Oklahoma
The Corporation Commissioner will not:
Be engaged in unethical practices that compromise the organization’s mission.
Lose sight of the purpose of the Commission in fighting for fairness.
Be directly or indirectly supported by the entities the Commissioner is meant to regulate.
