Oklahoma Democrats on the Passing of Oklahoma Political Legend Bruce Niemi
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - We are so saddened to hear about the loss of Bruce Niemi, a great friend to the Oklahoma Democratic Party and a leader known for bringing kindness and respect to a messy political climate.
Bruce's legend of service spans nearly four decades, from his service as Tulsa County Democratic Party Chair to State Representative for House District 78. Over his time as devoted community servant, he served as a city manager, trustee on the MTTA board, educator, and election board member.
"Bruce Niemi was a happy warrior and a dapper man who loved people. In his time in the Oklahoma House of Representatives, he was one of Oklahoma's first champions for LGBTQ+ rights. I was proud to nominate him as Chair of the Tulsa County Democratic Party and I'm grateful for his service," said Rep. John Waldron, Chairman of the Oklahoma Democratic Party. "The last time I saw him, he was cheerful and upbeat as always. He was alert and focused on the news of the nation. He was a proud Democrat- and I'll miss him."
Our love and condolences are with Bruce's family, and we will continue to carry on his legacy of devoted service to his city and his state.
