Oklahoma Democrats Announce Luke Kruse for House District 35 Special Election

Oklahoma City, OK - The Oklahoma Democratic Party, in partnership with the Oklahoma House Democratic Caucus, is proud to announce Luke Kruse as the Democratic candidate for the upcoming special election in House District 35, following the resignation of Rep. Ty Burns.

A lifelong educator and active community member, Luke Kruse is known in Morrison and across District 35 as the kind of neighbor everyone counts on, the teacher who helps kids reach their full potential, the bus driver who makes sure they get to school safely, the volunteer who mows the church lawn, and the football coach for the 5th and 6th graders at Morrison.

“Luke represents the best of rural Oklahoma values: community, family, service, and hard work,” said Lauren Craig, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Democratic Party. “He’s the kind of leader who fixes problems instead of picking fights, and he’s ready to bring that same hands-on approach to the State Capitol.”

“We are excited to see Luke step up and throw his hat in the ring to run for office. Oklahomans across the state are looking for candidates that will listen first then problem solve and Luke is ready to do just that,” House Minority Leader-Elect Melissa Provenzano said.

Kruse’s campaign will focus on practical solutions that reflect the real needs of his community:

  1. Investing in Education – Increasing per-pupil spending to ensure every Oklahoma child has access to a quality education and a fair shot at success.

  2. Fixing Local Roads and Infrastructure – Addressing the urgent need for safe, reliable roads, one of the top concerns across District 35.

  3. Supporting Foster Families and Children – Strengthening Oklahoma’s foster care system and ensuring that families who step up to care for vulnerable children have the resources and support they need.

“I’ve spent my life serving this community,” said Luke Kruse. “Whether it’s in the classroom, on the football field, or helping a neighbor change a flat tire, I know what makes this place special. I’m running because our families deserve a representative who will work for better schools, better roads, and a brighter future for our kids.”

The filing period for House District 35, which covers parts of Pawnee, Payne, Creek, Noble, and Osage counties, is October 6–8. The primary election is set for December 9, a primary runoff, if needed, is scheduled for January 13, and the general election will be held on February 10.
