PRESS RELEASE
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK (Oct. 2, 2026) The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) added Oklahoma's Fifth Congressional District to its Districts in Play, putting Representative Stephanie Bice on the committee's 2026 target list.
In its announcement, the DCCC said the move signals "Democrats' readiness to reclaim the House majority by widening the battlefield and working to defeat Stephanie Bice as Oklahomans sour on higher prices, less health care, and costly wars."
The announcement follows a new GBAO poll showing the race is a dead heat. Once voters hear from both candidates, Jena Nelson and Bice are tied at 48%. Nelson wins a majority of independents (55%), while Bice is deeply unpopular with them (20% favorable, 51% unfavorable). Among voters who know Nelson, she leads 61% to 30%.
"Oklahomans are tired of paying more and getting less, and they're tired of a Representative that fails to show up for them," Nelson said. "This race is competitive because residents across this district are ready for a change. We're going to keep showing up in every corner of OK-5 between now and November."
The GBAO poll also found Donald Trump underwater in a district voters say he carried by 13 points (42% favorable, 53% unfavorable), and Democrats holding a clear enthusiasm edge, with 89% rating themselves a 10 out of 10 on motivation to vote, compared to 71% of Republicans.
National polling firm GBAO surveyed 500 likely 2026 general election voters from September 17 to 20, 2026, by live telephone interviews and text to web. The margin of error is 4.4 percentage points at the 95% confidence level.
