TK Health, formerly known as Turn Key Health, is a for-profit healthcare company that contracts and operates in government owned jails and prisons. They have been named in more than 160 lawsuits including 50 deaths.

TK Health was co-founded and led by Jon Echols, a longtime state legislator and current candidate for Attorney General. TK Health has been under fire for patterns of abuse, neglect, and unconstitutional treatment of inmates across Oklahoma. 

“This is a pattern of inadequate care by TK Health that has taken the lives of numerous Oklahomans. They are chronically understaffed to increase profit. As a candidate for statewide office, Jon Echols needs to publicly address these failures and be transparent about his role in the creation and development of TK Health. It is our opinion that Mr. Echols has turned a blind eye to the unconstitutional care his company gives,” said Dan Smolen, a Tulsa attorney who has been involved in numerous lawsuits about TK Health. 

“This is what happens when politicians are in charge. They think the laws don’t apply to them. They think they can carry on while Oklahomans pay the price,“ said Cameron Spradling, an Oklahoma City attorney currently representing the Gonzalez family in a new lawsuit over a death in Oklahoma County Jail under TK Health’s care. 

“As a federal prosecutor, I’ve dealt with people my entire career that think they are above the law,” Nick Coffey, Oklahoma City attorney and candidate for Attorney General said. “I was approached by the attorneys and families taking on TK Health. They want accountability. They want answers. Frankly, Oklahoma deserves answers as to why our jail systems aren’t keeping Oklahomans safe. And taxpayers deserve answers on why they are having to foot the bill as a result.”

The press conference is open to members of the Oklahoma press and there will be time for questions.
