FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
AUG 27, 2026
Oklahoma City, OK — The Oklahoma Democratic Party will deliver to the State Capitol citizen petitions requesting that Representative Williams withdraw from the November ballot.
A candidate may withdraw from the General Election by filing a written notice before 5:00 p.m. on the Friday following the Runoff Primary Election – Friday, August 28, 2026. (See 26 O.S. § 5-116.1)
The petitions will be delivered to the State Capitol on August 28th, Friday morning at 10:30 a.m. Oklahomans who believe Danny Williams should resign and end his campaign are encouraged to add their names to the petition at dropdanny.com.
Oklahomans are calling on Williams to take responsibility and step away from the race rather than continue seeking another term in which he will either be expelled or otherwise distracted fighting his case. As of today, Speaker Kyle Hilbert (R - Bristow) has stripped residents of House District 28 of the office space, staffing privileges, and Committee memberships necessary for meaningful Representation. The Oklahoma Ethics Commission has opened a separate investigation into Williams.
“The people of Oklahoma deserve elected officials who are accountable to the public and willing to take responsibility for their actions,” said Oklahoma Democratic Party Executive Director, Lauren Craig. “We are calling on Danny Williams to file the paperwork to take his name off the November ballot on August 28th at the State Election Board and end his re-election campaign immediately. This is about accountability and the trust voters place in their elected representatives.”
Following the delivery of the petitions, the Oklahoma Democratic Party will be available to answer questions about how Williams' and the Speakers' decisions will affect House District 28, as well as on the ready-to-serve community leader Blake Cummings who is running to represent the District.
