NEW DATA: Oklahoma Unemployment up by 1.2% Thanks to Republicans’ Failing Economy
Oklahoma has lost 1,600 manufacturing jobs over the past year.
Today, the Bureau of Labor Statistics released new state unemployment data showing that Oklahoma has lost 1,600 manufacturing jobs since Donald Trump retook office. Today’s data comes as Trump’s approval rating plummets to 33% — the lowest point of his presidency — as Oklahomans struggle to afford daily necessities under his disastrous policies. While Oklahomans find themselves worse off than ever before, Trump and Oklahoma Republicans continue to do nothing but push their reckless economic agenda that’s killing our economy, bleeding good-paying jobs, and jacking up the cost of nearly everything.
A reminder: Oklahoma’s poverty rate is already one of the highest in the Nation, at 15.8% in comparison to the national average of 13%. Rising costs are hitting Oklahomans harder than ever before. One in eight Oklahoma adults report they’ve resorted to payday loans to make ends meet.
In response, Oklahoma Democratic Party Chair Erin Brewer released the following statement:
“On the campaign trail, Donald Trump promised to deliver a brighter future for Oklahoman families, but instead all he’s done is bring total ruin to Oklahoma’s economy, kill off good-paying jobs, and spike prices on just about everything. Now, Oklahoma families are forced to take on further debt or empty their savings account just to afford the essentials or pay their bills. While Trump and Oklahoma Republicans make everyday life nearly impossible for families, Democrats are fighting hard to lower costs and deliver Oklahomans the brighter, more affordable future Trump couldn’t.”
