OKDEMS Mourns the Loss of Principal Chief Jim Gray of the Osage Nation
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - Oklahoma Democrats mourn the passing of Osage Nation Principal Chief Jim Gray, a scion in the fight for tribal sovereignty and the self-determination of native peoples. We are saddened by this news and extend our thoughts and our hearts to Chief Gray’s family and to the entire Osage nation as they navigate this loss.
“Chief Gray’s legacy of leadership and humor will not be forgotten. Oklahoma is better for his enduring commitment to representative government and equal voice for all citizens. His example will continue to be our guide,” said Erin Brewer, Chair of the Oklahoma Democratic Party.
“Principal Chief Jim Gray served the Osage with strength, dignity, and an unwavering commitment to his people. His leadership honored Osage sovereignty, history, and future generations,” said Representative Ronald Stewart, OKDEMS Vice Chair. “On behalf of the Oklahoma Democratic Party and House District 73, I extend my sincere condolences to the Osage Nation and all who mourn his loss. May we continue to carry his legacy forward.”
Jim Gray served as Principal Chief of the Osage Nation from 2002 to 2010, leading a complete reform of the nation’s politics, ensuring that every member of the Osage Nation had an equal voice and equal vote. A mentor, a leader, and a man of integrity and humility, Chief Gray deserves the highest thanks for his lifetime of service.
