Oklahoma Democratic Party Chair Todd Goodman’s Statement Recognizing the 45th Anniversary of the Voting Rights Act
Oklahoma City — Today is the 45th anniversary of the signing of the Voting Rights Act, which occurred on August 6, 1965. In recognition of that occasion, Oklahoma Democratic Party Chair Todd Goodman issued the following statement:
“Today, on the 45th anniversary of the day President Lyndon Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act into law, I would like to join with Americans across the country in commemorating the incredible courage and dedication of all those who fought for the passage of the Voting Rights Act. In the more than four decades since the Voting Rights Act became law, the dream of those civil rights activists has become reality – here in Oklahoma and all across our country, Americans of all backgrounds are voting, running for office, and serving in government.
“Our country and our leaders are more diverse than ever before – and so is the Democratic Party. I am incredibly proud of the men and women of all backgrounds who have joined together with the Oklahoma Democratic Party to elect and reelect strong Democrats.
“The greatest aspirations of the Voting Rights Act are evident in our volunteers’ dedicated efforts to make sure Americans are engaged in the political process. And we will continue to fight to ensure that all voices are heard in our party, in our elections, and in our government.”
