Proctor, Citizens Celebrate Neighbors Right to Know

OKLAHOMA CITY (September 8, 2009) – State Rep. Eric Proctor was pleased with today’s ceremony celebrating the passage of legislation which would better notify families of proposed developments near their homes and neighborhoods.

Proctor, who authored House Bill 1424, was joined by leaders and citizens of Tulsa for the ceremonial bill signing. Last year, he filed the bill at the request of his constituents who were shocked after a local news station informed them that a multiple housing complex was to be approved the following day in a nearby neighborhood.

“I hope that this bill will encourage people to become involved with their neighborhood associations and watches. I believe active neighborhood associations are the frontline line in fighting crime as well as protecting our property values in our neighborhoods,” Proctor, D-Tulsa, said.

“Representative Proctor and his constituents are to be congratulated for their efforts to be here for this important day and taking the initiative to take a stand against crime,” Governor Brad Henry said.

Proctor noted that taxpayers expect the government to protect them from crime and help protect the value of their homes.

“The number one investment in a person’s life is their home,” Proctor said. “I am proud to be a part of a movement that will help protect our rights and neighborhood values.”
