Oklahoma City (April 6, 2009) State Capitol – Today, the House of Representatives passed HCR1019, a concurrent resolution to urge the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to take regulatory steps that will encourage the use of natural gas vehicles.
“As a House author of HCR1019, I am going to do all that I can to encourage those in Washington to do what is necessary to further this position in order to benefit our state and our nation,” stated Rep. Richard Morrissette, D-Oklahoma City.
Oklahomans have made a significant investment in compressed natural gas (CNG), and Rep. Morrissette believes it is now up to the EPA to do their part. This includes streamlining certification requirements for small-volume manufacturers of alternative fuel engine-conversion kits and permitting small vehicles and engines to be included in a single-engine category to aid in emissions testing and conversion of older vehicles, per language in the resolution.
“Before this country goes to electric cars, battery-fueled vehicles or hydrogen power, CNG is a better answer to power vehicles on two fronts: ending our continued dependence on foreign oil, and greening our nation. CNG is a no-brainer for America. I am calling for all public officials and all Oklahomans to encourage their representatives in Washington to urge the federal government to promote CNG powered vehicles,” Rep. Morrissette concluded.
