Former Senate leader Mike Morgan was asked to leave a political forum on Tuesday morning by Mary Fallin’s campaign. Fallin refused to take the podium until he had left the room. Lieutenant Governor Jari Askins, Fallin’s opponent in November’s gubernatorial election, was also asked to wait in the hall until after Fallin had finished her remarks, as was her campaign manager, Sid Hudson.
The event was a legislative forum for higher education officials, including the presidents of Oklahoma’s universities and colleges, as well as the board of regents. Sen. Morgan was an invited guest who was speaking on a panel later in the day. Hudson, a former Vice-Chancellor of the Board of Regents was also at the event in a non-political capacity.
Todd Goodman, Chairman of the Oklahoma Democratic Party, said he feels Fallin’s behavior at the meeting was unacceptable and shows she feels her message is only for some Oklahomans.
“As Election Day draws nearer, and Mary becomes less confident, she’s really starting to show her true colors,” Todd Goodman said. “This kind of paranoia and need for absolute control is not the leadership we need in the Oklahoma Governor’s office. Why does Mary Fallin insist on only talking to some Oklahomans? She’s showed this sentiment before when she remarked she had never been hired by a poor person. You are forced to ask if Mary thinks she will only be governing for certain people? The Governor of Oklahoma works for every citizen of Oklahoma not just their close friends who already agree with them.”
