Fallin Ad Doesn't Ring True

Congresswoman Mary Fallin’s latest ad is disingenuous at best.

In the ad, Fallin says she is “fed up with Washington” and that is why she is running for governor.  As with most of her advertising, though, these statements by Fallin do not add up.  The fact is, Fallin has spent years in Washington D.C. being part of the problem, and now she wants to bring the Washington way back home to Oklahoma.

In the ad, she says she is fed up with Washington’s values, but she has raised nearly $50,000 for her gubernatorial campaign from D.C. special interest groups and lobbyists.  She says she wants to focus on Oklahoma, but at every campaign appearance, every speech, every forum, she talks at length about President Obama and Congress, not about the state and what she would do to improve it.

The most hypocritical claim by Fallin in the ad is that she is against what she calls “wasteful Washington spending.”  This is an interesting statement coming from someone who voted YES on the $700 Billion TARP bailout for Wall Street bankers and CEOs.  Does Fallin consider government money paid to Wall Street as money well spent, while money paid to assist middle class families and local governments with budget deficits are ‘wasteful’?  This is not the Oklahoma way. Mary Fallin is part of the problem in Washington, not a leader in the fight against it.

Todd Goodman, chairman of the Oklahoma Democratic Party, said he doesn’t understand why Fallin would run for governor to fight those in Washington.

“If it’s so important to Fallin to ‘fight the liberals in Washington,’ maybe she should stay in Congress and fight,” Goodman said. “That’s not what being the governor of Oklahoma is about, the governor of Oklahoma needs to lead here at home. We face a state budget crisis, cuts in education, senior citizen nutrition and public safety among others, and Oklahoma voters deserve a governor who understands the state’s issues.”

This article is fine and dandy, but we need commercials to bring these facts out.

I'm with Ramona, we do need commercials to bring a lot of things out on Mary Fallin. While railing against Federal spending, she quietly added earmarks to I know at least some of these bills. She and Jim Inhofe are both guilty of these practices. The hypocrisy is just astounding!
