OKLAHOMA CITY--State Senator and Lt. Gov candidate Kenneth Corn has proposed a tough crackdown on lobbyists and special interests. Corn said the amount of corruption and investigations, last-minute legislative deals, conflicting contribution and ethics laws and out-of-control lobbyists prompted him to propose the toughest crackdown in state history on special interests and lobbyists.
“Over the last two or three sessions, there has been a disturbing and dramatic increase in allegations of corruption and special backroom deals in the waning hours of legislative sessions,” Corn said. “There’s a stench rising from the dome of the Capitol, and that stench is choking the voices of average citizens. It is the foul smell of corruption, money and special interests.”
Corn’s proposal is designed to expose these secret negotiations between legislators, lobbyists, special interests and the organizations they represent. Todd Goodman, Chairman of the Oklahoma Democratic Party, said this proposal is just an example of how Corn will work for real Oklahoma families as Lt. Governor.
“Corn’s proposal is among the strictest ever presented,” Goodman said. “It is time legislators start representing the people and not the special interests who pad their wallets. Sen. Corn will be a great Lt. Governor because he truly wants to represent Oklahomans and crack down on the secret legislative deals that hurt Oklahoma families.”
Corn said this proposal is one of his top priorities, and if elected Lt. Governor, he will work hard to make this proposal a reality.
