Coburn Blocking 9/11 Responders Bill

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Dec. 21, 2010

Sen. Coburn to Continue to Block 9/11 Responders Bill

In an alarming and disgraceful move, Sen. Coburn has pledged to block the 9/11 Responders Bill known as the Zadroga Bill.

This bill will allocate money to medical bills of 9/11 responders who have suffered health ailments as a result of inhaling toxins at Ground Zero.  The bill has a funding mechanism that would close a tax loophole for businesses who outsource jobs. It has the support of many Republicans including Mike Huckabee and Rudy Guiliani.

Todd Goodman, Chairman of the Oklahoma Democratic Party, said he is disgusted and angered by Coburn’s latest decision.

“This bill is the very least we can do for the heroes who first responded to Ground Zero,” Goodman said. “The bill is paid for--thus fiscally responsible. I find Coburn’s claims of disliking the voting procedure to be disingenuous at best. He has no problem fighting for a tax loophole for big corporations that outsource jobs but won’t fight for the heroes who are further victims of the 9/11 terrorist attack. This is partisan politics at its worst, and our hard working heroes should not suffer because of these antics. This is not a partisan issue. This is an American issue.”
