Oklahoma City (April 7, 2009) State Capitol – Though Senate leaders insist that one of their top advisers will earn just $140,000 this year, they have yet to get the message to the Office of State Finance (OSF).
Former State Rep. Fred Morgan, now employed on Senate President Pro Tem Glenn Coffee’s personal staff, still is set to earn more than $186,000 in 2009, according to the information currently available to Office of State Finance.
“The OSF explained that the State Senate payroll system is different from the one they use, so the only information they have about Mr. Morgan’s salary is based solely on his monthly paycheck,” said Rep. Al McAffrey, D-Oklahoma City. “They don’t have documentation that states Mr. Morgan will be paid on a part-time basis at any point this year.”
Sen. Coffee’s office did provide a copy of an internal form that notes Morgan would earn $140,000.04 if paid full-time for six months of the year and part-time for the other six months.
“I am grateful to Sen. Coffee for providing the documentation he has on file that does somewhat clarify the issue,” Rep. McAffrey stated. “I will keep a careful eye to see if Mr. Morgan’s salary does change and he does go to part-time status, and I encourage the public to do the same.”
