First, it was a prostitution scandal. Now we find out that Sen. David Vitter kept aide Brent Furer on his (taxpayer-funded) payroll for more than two years after Furer held a woman hostage for 90 minutes and slashed her neck with a knife.
Here's the latest twist: Furer eventually resigned, but it was because of several earlier drunken driving incidents. I'm not quite sure why slashing a woman with a knife in 2008 was fine, but drunken driving was unacceptable. They both seem pretty serious to me.
As a Louisianan, I'm disgusted. As a father, I'm spitting mad. If you are, too, sign the DSCC's petition. It's way past time for Vitter to fess up.
It's time for David Vitter to fess up. Why did Vitter keep this aide on staff after the aide imprisoned and assaulted a woman?
And how's this for irony? Vitter assigned Furer to work on women's issues. You read that right: WOMEN'S ISSUES.
We've got to get Vitter out of Washington.
Sincerely,
James Carville
